OFF TOPIC// The first time I heard of ochazuke from a Japanese friend, the idea instantly became a severe turn off until she decided to prove me wrong by dropping by one evening to make some for dessert, and to my surprise, it tasted really good! Can’t get enough of the stuff now. ^^

Finally, the highlight of the finale. Am very pleased KyoAni took the liberty to deliver an original version of the school festival live, which led to Yui making a mad dash home to collect her guitar and Sawako reassuring her club members she really is an advisor they can depend on when the time calls for it. She playing a Flying V is awesome, though it would’ve been great too if they had her use her SG like in the Manga. Oh and huge props to the music production team for the array of insert songs. I may not be that stuck on poppy “FUWA☆FUWA Time”, but I’ve definitely grown fond of the more mellow “Watashi no Koi wa Hotchkiss” and “Fude Pen ~Ball Pen~”. Love their riffs. :)
And above all, I love Yui’s reflection which tells her incredible journey of starting out as someone who used to worry over not having anything to do in life, but by finding something she can set her heart on with the encouragement of her friends, she was able to see a path ahead of her (although I think that path made her a little too optimistic lol). I’ll give credit to the writers for reminding us about the heart bit of K-ON! through Yui’s soliloquy and flashbacks. Those events may have happened not too long ago, but it still gives a wonderful feeling of warmth and nostalgia.
Ha! Looks like Hikasa can take a breather at last from getting endlessly bullied by the other girls into singing for their weekly band practices in Rajion!. Now she can shift the responsibility to Toyosaki…assuming she’s able to persist on it. After following Rajion! for 16 episodes, I’ve come to realize Toyosaki can be rather GAR sometimes, and the other three girls have learned not to mess with Boss Akkyo when she calls the shots for each episode. Well… Maybe except for Satou who still likes to mess around every week, but that’s typical of her. Can see why they picked her for Ritsu’s role. ;)
With the encore, ends the final live performance we’ll ever see from the band for now unless KyoAni considers some random filler OVA or specials in their Blu-ray and DVD sets, which is absolutely fine with me. I concur with 53rg10 about the QUALITY animation during those few moments though, but it’s still a relief they decided to stick with showing the girls performing live instead of slipping in another PV.
On the whole, this episode was a nice official curtain call for the series as next week’s bonus looks like a filler for most parts. Slightly anti-climatic after a finale like this but guess it doesn’t hurt to have a little bit more K-ON! before they wrap it up for good.

Yes! Thank you for realizing that! K-ON! is supposed to be something to be treated lightly instead of pure seriousness, which is probably the reason why many people deem it as failure.
Exactly, you couldn’t be more right on that. I’ve always treated K-ON! as something I just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching after a long day of work. It’s like my energy drink. It rejuvenates me and makes me smile whether the characters are being goofy or giving each other a shoulder to lean on. I realize quite a number of people branded it as “FAIL” because it didn’t meet their expectations, some even anticipating it to be a srs music themed series like BECK while others pegging it as shallow rubbish which tried too hard to promote moe. Well for me, K-ON! has never been primarily about srs music or moe imho. It’s always been about the friendship and school life of the girls who continue to nurture their camaraderie and discover genuine passion through their band activities. :)
I absolutely loved the way this episode ended and the overall series. It was VERY close to knocking Lucky Star off my number 1 D8!!
The whole Yui reflection had me going omg. this. is. THE. Best. Right from her close fall, the epic kickoff and dash back to the auditorium. Just can’t help but squeal or just plainly smile so much at her. Incredible journey is incredible. (and the flashbacks!!) Also with Mio’s fantastical-makes-you-melt-lyrics and dayumnnnnnnnnn…. ALMOST, ALMOST got me to shoot K-ON to number 1 on my favs.
But of course, i have to ramble xD:

Sawa-chan ON STAGE :D! Excellent animation overall for everything. GO Kyoto Animation. I just love how much minor details they animate, it just gives the whole atmosphere an extra umph.

But yesh, overall I simply loved K-ON! to bits. Waiting forward to it EVERY SINGLE WEEK is a rarity for me. I just had to watch the minute I got the episode.
But mostly I was like MIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIOMIO…. the series just blew me away :D

Yes. I love how they paid attention even to the little details. The strumming, the drumming, the key tapping (??? Is there a specific term to describe playing the keyboard?)… Amazing! And we did get the much awaited awesome finger-works!
Good Job on bringing this up! I just realized I found it damn sexy too. Good on Mio! She’s always been terrified of performing in public, and she still is, but the way she oh so subtly expressed herself like that when singing “fufu” -> *squeals* ~^^~. It’s as though she has become a bit more comfortable on stage.
Me thinks she’ll get a fanclub just like Mio.
As expected of Mugi. She knows how to read the atmosphere very well.

Ritsu and Tsumugi’s chara song CDs ^^. Too bad we have to wait until August for those. Personally, I’m looking forward to Mugi’s because Kotobuki Minako is easily the best singer after Hiyo, imho. :D
And oh YES!! I watched Hina Clyne’s concert! Epic isn’t even enough to describe it! Is it okay to say my mind went into overdrive? Guess they made a great move earlier in getting the seiyuu to perform covers of those famous Anisongs, with Shizu-sama on Cruel Angel’s Thesis!
