『Let Us Hold Hands』
「Doraemon the Movie – Nobita to Midori no Kyojin Den Ending Theme」
Lyrics : ayaka
Music : Nishio Yoshihiko & ayaka
Vocals : ayaka
If you listen closely, you can hear
The sounds of laughter and tears
That everyone is living, with the ones1 they love dear
If you find yourself lost when crossing the wide ocean
Let us go together then, towards where the light shines
Having conflicts2 means we can embrace one another again and share our “weaknesses”
I wonder if there is such a word that speaks of “eternity”?
When I think about the future, I become afraid but
Because we have a dream that always continues all this time…
Let us hold hands
Even though my heart is crying out to you
You pretend that you didn’t see me
You just turn away from me to face ahead, and you keep on walking
In this photograph where you were smiling… “Were you picturing this very moment?”
Communicating can be so difficult, isn’t it?
Even if I were to strain my voice until it breaks, it can no longer reach you
But throughout time, there will always still be a day where I will keep crying out to you
In that moment when flowers bearing our piling “emotions” bloom
An immense strength will be born
I wonder if there is such a word that speaks of “eternity”?
When I think about the future, I become afraid but
We have a dream that always continues all this time… I’m sure of it
If we soar towards this sky, I wonder if we would see each other?
I will send “my crying self” to you
If we have been believing in our dreams3 all this while, they will come true
Let us hold hands
Japanese Lyrics : 手をつなごう
Notes
I did the translation for this song after listening to it as well as watching the PV several times, and you can expect that I took tons of artistic liberty on how I perceived it. :)
1 Kanji was written as “人” (hito – person), but sung as “君” (kimi – you). In ayaka’s interpretation, it is assumed she introduced two perspectives when looking at it; one – through our eyes, two – through the eyes of the people surrounding us. She was referring to individuals in general but especially the one person who is beloved to each and everyone of us on a personal level
2 “Butsukatte” generally means “colliding” or “running into (someone/something)”, but in the context of this song, I chose to interpret it as “having conflicts” (having colliding thoughts, opinions etc.)
3 “Dreams” wasn’t included in the original lyrics, but was voluntarily fitted into the translation to add substance and support to the theme of the song
EDIT: A more in-depth and meaningful translation can be found here. Darn, I should have searched for it first before doing one of my own. Would have saved me the trouble :p. Nonetheless, I still wanted to do my own translation because this song is just so beautiful. I’m glad we share almost the same understanding of the lyrics, only that mine is more superficial and not as thoughtful. “Yay!” for a fellow ayaka fan! :)
